During her time as a Master of Public Health student at the UNC Gillings School, Berhan Getechew founded SHARE, alongside Rachel Hirschey. She led the process of identifying SHARE board members and oversaw team building, as well as the early functioning of SHARE. Upon graduating and accepting a position with federal health agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and National Institutes of Health, Berhan became SHARE’s first Emeritus member.
